Thomas Jefferson Memorial Engagement Proposal

If you’ve been reading our blog and catching the last few proposal stories, you will know that they have all been planned out-of-state. Ray’s proposal is no different! All the way from New York, he planned out the most intricate proposal including family and friends! All without letting his now fiance, Renee know! This DC engagement proposal story will have you smiling from ear to ear!

Planning the Proposal

Ray and Renee met online while they were in Philadelphia for school. After two and a half years of dating, Ray decided to give Renee the surprise of her life! Planning a surprise proposal in DC had advantages. They had family living in the area and it was easier to pull off a proposal without raising suspicion in her. So, he planned it as a trip to go see family. To get Renee to dress up, he had planned tea at the Mandarin Oriental with family and then a bit of sight seeing in Georgetown.
DC is known for their Cherry Blossom festival and while it was a bit early for the peak to be seen, Ray convinced Renee to walk down to the Tidal Basin to try and catch the start of a few blooms. He secretly planned to have family and friends hiding close by.

Proposing at the Jefferson

Weeks leading up to the proposal, Ray went over every angle and every spot at the memorial to find the perfect place to propose. Keeping in mind locations that would be the least suspecting spots, the plan was to photograph them within the columns.

The day before the proposal, a raging windstorm came through with wind speeds of up to 60mph! The winds were so strong that it even knocked over the Potomac Mills sign right next to interstate 95. Lanes going Southbound were actually closed to keep drivers safe. Luckily on the day of the proposal, the wind speeds were not quite as high and the sky was clear.

The Proposal

As the sun was setting over the horizon creating the most perfect glow, we saw Ray heading up the steps with Renee in hand. She had no idea what was about to happen!

As Ray made his way to the roses, Renee stood by his side. He turned and the words started pouring. There were tears in both of their eyes. You could tell how deeply they cared for one another. As Ray reached into his coat to pull out the engagement ring that he had hiding, we saw Renee was in complete surprise!

He knelt down on one knee and asked the woman of his dreams to marry him, and slipped on the gorgeous round halo ring on her left hand. We watched them embrace and knew what an incredible moment this was for the two. As they held on to each other in that moment, their friends and family emerged from their hiding spots to congratulate the two newly engaged couple!

The love and support of their family was felt all around. It was fun to watch the excitement as they all embraced and gazed at the new bling on Renee’s hand! So many family and friends come together for a life changing moment. Lucky for Renee and Ray that their friends and family all helped to make it happen!
